I cannot remember where i saw it first, but it was a piece of artwork by Beksinski that utterly captivated me. And when i found the official website...i sat there for hours, looking at the pictures and listening to this piece by Preisner...i was enthralled.
It was much, much later that i came to watch Kieslowskis movies, and then discovering that this composer..is beyond anything i had ever heard. he is without a doubt my favorite composer. He composes the music for my soul...
I have finally after many years found the music that encapsulates me. An internal sadness that I've never been able to shake off or understand. Maybe it's because I have Polish blood, and carry the melancholy of my mother and grandparents, who experienced first hand the ravages of war, loss and leaving what they knew behind, never to return to their beloved homeland. Incidentally, I too love the works of Beksinski, whose life was also tragic, and have many of his art books. Preisner knows how to touch one's soul.
This is probably the most haunting and surreal tune I have ever heard. This piece have a soul of its own, a sad soul that have seen unspeakable things.
It is seldom I have been moved by a piece with such a heavy-hearted melody like this one. Thank you for existing Preisner.
