She was a lovely singer and the Metropolitan Opera had a voice coach in Hollywood keeping a watch on her. It is sad that when her last films where she tried to play a more mature character , didn't meet with success they didn't direct her towards the opera. She was by then rich enough to take time out for the study to build the stamina for singing an operatic role. She would have found the fulfilment of playing characters with great depth through great music. I dream of her as Princess Pamina in Mozart's The Magic Flute where her vocal purity would have been perfect. She could have gained experience in smaller theatres before tackling the large space of the old Met.
Here she is singing a lovely popular song flawlessly and therefore less operatic in style than usual. What a talented lady!
You created a most beautiful video of Deanna Durbin! To me, she was the rose of all roses and my favorite female superstar. Years ago, I watched some television re-runs of her old movies that were made before I was born, and she has been in my heart ever since. Thank you, Jim, for this timeless memory. Sincerely, with love from Canada, Evy
