As a young teenager, I couldn't get enough of operetta and this one was one of my very favorites. Imagine my pleasant surprise when I found that my Canadian songbird Deanna Durbin sings it. Great!
Very beautiful version. Although I've always been partial to Vivian Vance's rendition, which she sang on "I Love Lucy". The comedy scene was going on in the background, but her voice was so rich and beautiful, it just blew me away! I wish she had made more recordings of her singing. She was very versatile and could also sing jazz as well as operetta.
As usual, Deanna Durbin offers a lovely rendition ... this time, of “My Hero” ... I do not choose to deprecate her enormous talent but I direct your attention to Rise Stevens’ version in the “Chocolate Soldier” ... superb ... flawless ...
Note to Steven Grotte: The natural color of her hair was red. They darkened it for some movies and made it blond for "Lady on a Train". Many of her apparently black dresses (such as the gown she wore at the Maison LaFitte in "Christmas Holiday" were also red. The black and white film of that era was completely insensitive to red light.
