Elmore sang with a feeling, emotion and depth that is so unique which was reinforced by his own guitar accompaniment which was as rough, violent and expressive as his voice!!!!!!!!!

I've heard so many other versions of this track and they are all fine in their own right. But Elmore puts it down like no one else. This rhythm is on fire, his voice pitches to perfection. Such genius...

the one chord groove really reminds me of mississippi hill country style, just cranked up to 11. also, those saxophones are killer! completely off the rails in the best way

This song was written in 1929 and when I heard it 50 years ago I was hearing Canned Heat doing a "cover of a cover of a cover of a cover".  I'm an old guy and this song pre-dates me by 25 years.  Maybe that is why the Blues has such heart and is aged like a fine wine.

When I first heard Elmore's version of this song some years back I think I played it ten times in a row before I went to the next song on the album.

took a trip to Memphis and decided to drive to Elmores grave in Mississippi. Couple hrs into the delta. Got there. little cemetary in the middle of nowhere. Deathly quiet. Nobody around. Me and Elmore. Tried to imagine the thunderous sound he and the Broomdusters created. If only he could have been arounda little longer like John Lee and Muddy. A Master!!

I wish I could have seen him play live... a blues giant, now and forever... I think the sky was crying the day he passed on

What makes this version so great is the bossa nova beat then he let's loose with one of those pre-Plant screams. Kind of post-modern.

Also Ray Charles used this riff in "What I say".

I absolutely love the sound of his guitar. It's just gritty enough to sound spectacular!

Elmore said "I'm Elmore & When I'm Gone There Ain't No More!"
