This song truly sends me back in time. A peaceful wave of emotion comes over me as I recall in my youth how we would all get together at the local park in town. Nothing to do but talk with each other. I remember there was such Love around us then. A time when we greeted each other, eye to eye, heart to heart and always with a love peace in our greeting. Why? I like to think it was because they were the most turbulent, hateful times of social unrest ever. But I'm proud we led with our hearts first, trying to effect social changes for the better. I believe we did do well!
This song has always captured that true feeling of how we felt inside. Walking around so young and innocent wanting to change the world for the better. Wanting, praying so bad to see that hateful world change, change into a world of LOVE.
I was 15 when this song came out. I was on a date with my first girlfriend. 'we met at a skating ring (they were big in those days) We skated to this song over and over. Some of the best times of my life. That was over 50 years ago and I still think of Vicki from time to time. Wish I could turn time back just one day.
I know what you mean.......I am 64 now and long for those days when the sun was brighter and sky seemed more blue. We were so idealistic back then. What a beautiful song!
For me and my girlfriend, who is in a convelesent home with stage 5 Parkinson's disease, commonly called "the end, " this is OUR song. No, there is no cure for her. But I love her so much, I cannot and will not ever leave her, ever!!! After 2 previous marriages, we had 11 spectacular years together before she had to go to the home. I found true love with Bev and it is never ending!!! She IS the love of my life!!! I thank "the Trogs " for this song because we both love it and sing along with it. Even a rotten disease like Parkinson's can't break us apart!!! I Love you Beverly and I always will!!!
Those of us that lived during that amazing time will never be able to really express what the mood of the time was. Yes, there were problems, there always is. But it was a time of discovery and wonderment for us. Music, clothes, attitudes towards relationships, the whole world was opened up to strange, magical and new ideas. I was about 19 years old when this song came out. I will be 70 years old next year, and the feeling of that time is still with me and my wife. This month will be our fifty (50) years anniversary. Yes, we were married on Halloween, 1966!
"I see your face before me, as I lay on my bed." "Its written on the wind., it's everywhere I go". So if you really love me, let it show". Love this song.
