This song was inspired by the four-week-old son of 4Him vocalist Mark Harris. He recalled in CCM Magazine presents 100 Greatest Songs In Christian Music that he was wondering how to communicate the Christian message to his newborn, who hadn't quite caught on to this thing called language. Suddenly it clicked that the message was bigger than words. Harris explained: "I thought it's really how I live and if I live what I say. The simple message in this song is that we cannot compromise because kids are looking at us, and what they see in us basically gives them a foundation for the way that they live their lives." He added: "We all need to continue to be a light for the kids that come behind us - for future generations."
The church of the 21st Century has totally lost a father's heart towards the youth. Instead, they do everything they can to be like the youth. Man, I miss 4Him terribly along with all the 80s and 90s Christian singers. The church of 2020 desperately needs to truly ingest and digest the message of this song. I can barely hear this song without weeping.
