CLASSIC!!!! i don't know what they was smoking when they recorded AL's records!! Pure Dope look how many cats have sampled elements of this record... His howl catalog is like my life soundtrack..My family loves some AL!!!!!
Used to dance to this song at parties at our house when this album came out in "73". Hadn't heard it in thirty-five years, until my piano master friend JP aka Dr.Candrun says "Check this shit out" about five years ago. Saturday night, I was sampling some Bacardi & coke with my "Baby" and had to hear it again. But I tried to remember the song title? Being a drummer, I say, "It's got this great, funky little Bernard Purdy drum intro... Al sings baaabay...and a horn section goes...dada doda da da da ta da...Baaaabay....then those seventies keys hit a note. All soul !!! Could not find the CD. And couldn't remember title. Not all was lost though. Had to listen to every Al Green, Issac H. Curtis M. and every other soul song in my collection instead. Called the Dr. the next day to find out what the title of the song was? (I'm glad your mine.) Should of been....BaaBay. And that's all I've gotta say bout that ! Lol Bring it on Al baby.
Such a groovy song. Al is a phenomenal vocalist. One of the best I've ever heard. I may be a drummer...But, damn I know a good voice when I hear one. lol
Baby, I'm so glad you're here
Baby, I've got something to say, my dear
Baby, yeah
I'm just so glad you're mine
Whoa ho
Baby, why did it take so long
Whoa baby
Only made my love grow strong
Baby
Yeah yeah
I'm so glad you're mine
Hey hey hey hey
When darkness gather 'round me
And friends forsaken me
I know you'll never let me down
I know you'll never let me down
Hey hey hey hey
Baby, I'm not gonna leave you alone
Baby, oh hop on and I'll give you what you want
Baby yeah
So glad you're mine
Hey hey hey hey
When darkness gather 'round me
And friends forsaken me
I know you'll never let me down
I know you'll never let me down
Woo ho, boy, oh yeah hey
You'll never hear me say,
Baby, (baby) I'm gonna turn my back and walk away
(Baby) Baby I'll see you another day, hey
Baby, (baby) I'm so I'm so
Thankful for your love, angel
Thankful for your love, every day
Glad you're mine
Aww hey hey hey
Yeah hey hey thankful for your love
Sick opening playing on the sticks by the great drummer Mr. Howard ' Bulldog' Grimes. The Hi Rhythm Section - my favorite- raised up musically by the one & only genius Willie Mitchell & when paired with the Right Reverend Al Green- created grooves so funky & intimate that changed up the music game forever.
