Van Ronk had a great bluesy smokey vocal. Sounds like he's using his own chords..in the beginning at least...soulful dude..probably why he didn't hit da BIG TIME...which is fine with me..kinda hard to listen to a millionaire tell ya bout hard times..huh bobby?

I used to hang out in Greenwich Village in the early 90s on my daily quest to find Dave Van Ronk while also frequenting all the record stores and washington square/bleeker street areas, interesting place to be when you're young

I remember sitting in a basement cafe on McDougle Street in the Village listening to Dave singing "Keep of Trucking Mama" "Salty Dog" and "Baby Let Me Follow You Down" 1964-1965. James Taylor was singing at the Night Owl. I had to stand outside because the Night Owl was expensive. Seems like yesterday.

Been listening to Von Ronk since the early '60s. Enjoy his guitar nuances.

There was a hurricane blowing and the only one walking the beach was Dave. Me and Speedy had reefed down his Hobie 16 and were surfing, pitchpoling, and laughing a lot. Dave joined us.

W had a coffe house back in 1967 in LaPorte,Indiana and Dave showed up and I really felt the folky heartbeat in his music. I am happy to have experienced his music in that small setting, all those years ago. RIP Dave.

Though he never made it big, Van Ronk will always be in my reckoning one of the great interpreters of the blues. I remember being blown away by his finger pickin on that big Gibson guitar he played. And, he introduced me to Bob Dylan.
