I learned guitar by trying to cop Dave's licks. Loving his first LPs on Folkways, I always thought he was Black until his first album on the Prestige label had his photo on the cover. :) Thank You, Dave Van Ronk in Blues Heaven for preserving this music and introducing so many of us to it.
My memories of hanging out with Dave in the studio are amazing. Not only was he a gifted musician and all around great guy he was extremely funny and a larger than life character. His stories were amazing and he had a million of them. The fact that he trusted me to record and mix his projects is something I am very proud of and something I will always hold close to my heart.
Thanks to you, sir, for keeping his art and his music alive.
I had the honor and the pleasure to work with Dave as the recording engineer and mixer on several of his final CD's.
He truly was a treasure and I sure do miss him.
Love you Dave!
I like to hear "you've been a good old wagon, daddy, but you broke down". It just puts a smile on my face. This song comes from his "Inside Dave Van Ronk" which was released in 1991, and numerous other times as mentioned below. Enjoy!
Thanks so much for posting this version by Dave. I came across a used 'Dave Van Ronk, Folksinger,' LP on New Years Eve 1973, as it happens, and I was hooked. Saw him in the early 1990's in a small place on Rt. 9, in Framingham, Massachusetts. He sat with me and my buddy a few times between sets and afterward. It's an experience I treasure. Also, thx for the info on where to get the song today.
