What a discovery! I have never heard of this artist before! His voice has a bright, shimmering quality, and sings with great expressiveness and suavity of phrasing. Thank you so much for posting, Tom.
I love to hear David Whitfield singing any of his songs but this one doesn't suit his voice as well as some of the others. Even so, I'm really glad to hear it again. Thanks for the opportunity.
Great song from the days when singers actually had some musical talent compared with rappers today "Rapping is for people with absolutely no musical voice or talent horrible to listen to.
Gordon MacRae
trumps EVERYONE
on this song. Whitfield didn't finish in the higher key shift as MacRae did, and
wisely so. Still,
a highly commendable
performance here. Not extremely
enamored with his
voice, but the power alone makes it rank
among the finest
overall voices of
all time.
Thanks ILoveJenni47 for replying. I cut my teeth on tenor music when I was seven years old and listened to Richard Tauber sing 'Goodbye" from the White Horse Inn on an old antique gramaphone.WW2 had just ended a couple of years back. We had no electricity on our dairy farm. I now sing for an aged care establishment every second Tuesday and concentrate of the old songs with meaning and melody....take care...
This young idiot used to wander around the large warehouse were I worked imitating this voice and singing his songs. I am sure my colleagues wished I would shut up, but no one told me to.Simply magnificent voice.
This man has a beautiful voice and I remember him singing in the 50-60s.Particularly
Cara Mia... we didn't hear all of his music here in Australia at the time and I'm grateful that you have recorded them. Mario Lanza was played more often however you can't compare them..each are brilliant..cheers
Great voice, I have most of his records and enjoy them often. I was lucky to meet and talk to David when he performed at the Canadian Navy base in the mid 60's. He sings with such feelings but I feel many people did not appreciate it.
A pleasant middle voice but the high notes are strained and not beautiful which is typical of most singers. Compare to Mario Lanza who when he sings this song the high notes are outrageously gorgeous!
