Actually, I always thought the song was for those who have lost a dear loved one. Yet the last verse advises;" Close your eyes to jealousy, and if you love her so, DONT EVER LET HER GO..." So the point being made is, if you have a dear wife, partner or friend, treasure that relationship and dont let anything cause you to part while you are here and now.
