Although i am from Greece this song gives me quite a feeling every time i hear it, what a beautiful place Scotland is, somehow i have always felt a deep love and drawn for that place and i honestly hope i can visit one day. Greetings to every Scot reading this
My mum saw Dougie at Cambridge festival this August. She was so excited as she met him afterwards and he called her by her name and she had an amazing time. Two days after coming back she had a blood clot in the brain and suffered a heart attack and passed away after not coming out the coma. We began her funeral service with this song. Not a dry eye by the end of this song, was so perfect and means even more because of her seeing him just before. Also the last picture we have of her, she was forced to have her pic taken with this Scottish flag and she's standing there doing the metal \m/ hand in the breeze blowing her flowing dress and colourful hair. Just perfect, like this song.
I lived in Abu Dhabi for 12 years from the age of 21 - 33. In my last year I went home for holidays and explored with my daughter and wife, we attended two very Scottish weddings and headed back to the desert. We touched back down in Abu Dhabi and the very 1st day back, I turned and told my wife we have to go back home. There was no choice at that point, being away any longer was not an option...We have now been home 3 years and I believe because of my time away I have a huge appreciation for this country we call home, there is something special about Scotland above anywhere else in the world. This song could have been written about me that day I arrived back in Abu Dhabi and because of that this will always be more than just a song to me and my family.
My Uncle Ian went to Australia and loved a woman for 45 yrs and brought up a family riddled with cancer but when he died he had his Queen of the South scarf and Rod Stewart I am sailing. Scots people never lose who they are no matter where they go in the world. Scotland is a beautiful country and has an ambience that gives love and life hope in a world of all sorts of evil.
You Scottisch, can be proud to have such a song represented by singers as Maclean, Amy Macdonald, Paolo Nutini... I'm Dutchman and I'm very, very jealous....
