I was 14 yrs old in 1960...saw all the hippy, flower power, and mods and rocker era`s, And the music,WOW...I`m 68 now, and i wish i could go back there again..........perhaps in another life,....... i will.
'Peter Gunn' was actually from 1959, not 1960. It was on the LP 'Especially For You'. It was released as a 45 single in England on the London label in 1959. The 'B' side was 'Yep!'. Steve Douglas was on tenor sax, one of the greatest rock & roll tenor sax players, in my opinion.
It's hard to imagine someone making a better version of a song than Henry Mancini, but Duane's arrangement is equal to the original, and in some ways better.
I've got one of the Duane Eddy greatest hits c.d.'s I love it. Especially when someone who remembers when the music was new hears it playing. An older guy heard Rebel Rouser playing as I waited for my wife in the local Wal-Mart parking lot. He said " since when do people your age know about great music like this"? I told him I grew up listening to it. Made his day.
This was the first thing I learned on a guitar, drove my mother nuts with it. Over and over for three months. Now I have a hard time pickin' my nose,(Arther-Itus came to visit for a spell). Such is life, such is war.
