All my life until the day i die, memories to keep
Memories to keep, all my life just one moment in time
All of my life you lie silently there, heard it on the radio
Dreaming while you sleep, trying to keep my hands upon the wheel, dreaming while you sleep
heard it on the radio
If i had another chance, dreaming while you sleep
Would i still deny that it was me, dreaming while you sleep
please open your eyes
Dreaming while you sleep, trapped in her memory all my life
Dreaming while you sleep, till the day that you open your eyes Genesis, all my life i ll be haunted by
dreaming while you sleep
i will never be free all my life
Trapped in her memory all my life, just one moment of time Dreaming, i didn t stop to see what i had done
i can never understand what went thru my mind
All my life i ll be haunted by, but could i take my secret to the grave, dreaming while you sleep
would i do the same
Dreaming while you sleep, and it will live inside of me, and it will live inside of me
Till the day that you open your eyes, dreaming while you sleep
But could i take my secret to the grave, would i do the same
trapped in her memory all my life
dreaming while you sleep
dreaming while you sleep
all my life and only i ll know why
all my life and only i know why
Memories to keep, trapped in her memory all my life Dreaming, and it will live inside of me
if i had another chance
Are you dreaming while you sleep, if i had another chance
All my life until the day i die, oh i will never be free all my life Dreaming, all my life and only i know why
I can never understand what went thru my mind, heard it on the radio Dreaming, trapped in her memory all my life
Dreaming while you sleep, all of my life
and it will live inside of me
Memories to keep, dreaming while you sleep
I never saw her step into the street, trapped in her memory all my life
I bought this cassette when it came out in 1991... 23 years later and now that I'm 40 as opposed to 17, I hear the lyrics a little differently and they just kinda resonate a little more... I think this is their best song since Duke (1980).
Amazing. Dark, full of panic, guilt and fear. The guy hit a girl with his car, drives on and let her die. He knows, he is cursed for the rest of his life. The lyrics are touching, the music is epic, it gives me goosebumps, it's so emotional and powerful. Maybe the best track on the album, pure Genesis.
All my life, you lie silently there.
All my life, in a world so unfair.
All my life, and only I will know why.
And it will live inside of me.
I will never be free, all my life.
Trapped in her memory, all my life.
Until the day you open your eyes...
I love Phil Collins and this album is amazing. I saw something on FB where people were signing a petition for Phil Collins to not return to music. I don't understand that. Phil is an amazing artist with a very broad portfolio.
The most profound powerful lyric ever, the intensity of the chorus is matched by the violent drumming which reflects the anxiety of the situation. In many ways characteristic of the Gabriel era. Great lyrics Mr Rutherford.
so nostalgic. I bought thus album when I was 14. I have loved Genesis my whole life. This song reminds me so much of being a teenager and my childhood friends.
