Very hippie Dead Head song. The sax solo sounds like the guy from SNL, but the album
credits Steven Schuster. He is from the SF Bay area has worked with The Dead, Jeff. Airplane,
Quicksilver ...
While the music plays the band
I love these lines. In another song, scarlet begonias, they say "well the sky was yellow and the sun was blue." Just...way to go,man. Good shit.
“They’re a band beyond description, like Jehovah’s favorite choir. People joining hand in hand, while the music plays the band, Lord they’re setting us on fire.”
This song reminds me of this passage of Shakespeare; literate and smart as these guys were, I have no doubt they drew on it for inspiration:
"Where should this music be? I' th' air or th' earth?
It sounds no more, and sure, it waits upon
Some god o' th' island. Sitting on a bank,
Weeping again the king my father’s wrack,
This music crept by me upon the waters,
Allaying both their fury and my passion
With its sweet air. Thence I have followed it,
Or it hath drawn me rather. But ’tis gone.
No, it begins again."
Ferdinand, "The Tempest," Act. 1, Scene 2
