Whippoorwill’s singing, soft summer breeze;
Makes me think of my baby left down in New Orleans
I left down in New Orleans
Magnolia you sweet thing, you’re driving me mad
Got to get back to you, baby;
You’re the best I ever had;
You’re the best I ever had;
You whisper, «Good Morning» so gently in my ear;
I’m coming to you baby;
I’ll soon be there
I’ll soon be there
"Magnolia"
Whippoorwill's singing
Soft summer breeze
Makes me think of my baby
I left down in New Orleans
I left down in New Orleans
Magnolia, you sweet thing
You're driving me mad
Got to get back to you, babe
You're the best I ever had
You're the best I ever had
You whisper "Good morning"
So gently in my ear
I'm coming home to you, babe
I'll soon be there
I'll soon be there..
Been on earth since a long time. This song is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard. Good God. I'm not going to cover it, but Jesus the Christ. Good God. This one pulls tears.
It was "Magnolia" that first woke me to the music of JJ Cale. 1972. Hard to believe that it was 42 years ago and I was all of 18 years of age. How time passes.
I have been a fan since "Naturally" was released and I was in high school smoking Columbian Red Bud to tasty tunes like "Magnolia". Back side of our La.home had some gorgeous Magnolia Bushes/blooms...JJ Cale was one cool dude and a great American Musical Artist.
7 damn months without the woman of my dreams, I’d play this on guitar and sob.
We are now back together, the first time I played it infront of her it brought us both to tears, we laughed and said “we can go through anything can’t we?”. Thank you JJ.
first heard this jam early one morning in 1972 as my family was driving back to Virginia from Nashville from Christmas break. I was 12 or so dozing in the back seat when this was playing. DJ didn't give a name or artist, but the tune and the line "you're the best I ever had" has haunted me ever since. I searched it out on Google and was thrilled to properly meet Magnolia for the first time. Thank you, J J Cale. RIP
Twenty years ago my girlfriend and I made this our song. We broke up eighteen years ago but never lost our love for each other. We lost contact with each other for all those years and then miraculously were reunited. It's sweeter now than before. Love can't be forgotten. I love you, Pam.
