It would be interesting to know whether this was Gleason's attempt to replace Hackett with a less expensive soloist. I would not disparage the saxophonist, as he sounds quite good but the astonishing creativity of Hackett is lacking, to my ear.
Gleason's contract for initial collaborations on similar mood music with Bobby Hackett as cornet or trumpet soloist, sold well but left most of the great profit to Gleason and little or nothing to Hackett. Years later, Gleason approached Hackett for a similar project. Hackett countered with a contract for more profit to Hackett and less to Gleason.
