There's something so beautiful about Marty's voice. It's an out and out crime that he isn't mentioned as often as he should be for having one of rock's greatest voices!
It's no secret, how strong my love is for you
It's no secret, when I tell you what I'm gonna do
'Cause I love you, yes I love you
It's no secret, everybody knows how I feel
It's no secret, when I say my love is real
'Cause I love you, yes I love you
It's no secret, when you got me jumping up and down
It's no secret, 'cause my heart is chained and bound
I love you, yes I love you, yeah
It's no secret, everybody knows how I feel
As I get older the years they get heavy for you
Oh is it any wonder why I feel that my whole life is through
Yeah, when I stop feeling how strong my love is for you
Oh, know I'll be empty wanting your love like I do
It's no secret, no, when you got me jumping up and down
It's no secret, 'cause my heart is chained and bound
I love you, yes I love you, yeah
It's no secret, no, everybody knows how I feel
It's no secret, no, everybody knows how I feel, yeah
It's no secret, yeah
Marty Balin has written some of the greatest love songs for this group. And his voice is spectacular. I love this song. Thanks Marty, I have great memories of your songs and this group during the infamous 60s. It doesn't get better than this.
No elaborate poetry, no play on words or wit, just that pure and simple phrase, I love you. At the point when their presence is so overwhelming you find it hard to even say anything, but those words are the only thing you could possibly say then, pure and powerful. Its no secret Marty was feeling actual love when he wrote this.
The greatest "love ballad" from the 1960s that America never heard! RCA missed an opportunity to push this song that, I believe, had real chart potential because it sounded as good as any folk rock song from the 1965-66 time period, would have fit in on radio with any other song by the Turtles, the Mamas and the Papas, the Lovin' Spoonful, or the Byrds.
I love you Forever, My Matchless Gem, My Heavenly-Resplendent Wife, My Barbra Rose! Each smile from you was warm California sunshine. Your beautiful and soulful blue eyes shone like the brightest stars. Truly, you brought a portion of Heaven into my life. I'm incomplete without you, Barb. Come back from Heaven for me very, very soon. I'll be waiting for you, Barb. -- Your eternal love, your best friend, your champion, your husband (Walt)
Remember this song in the summer of love (1967) the dead and airplane played on weekends in the panhandle. The fillmore was only 2 bucks, love was free. never to be again.
