Now darling, I proved I really love you
And I’ve always been real true
But I can’t believe you anymore
You promised me that you’d always love me That you’ll love me till the end
But I can’t trust you anymore
All of my life I’ve been mistreated
But I won’t be blue no more
I have found another lover
So it’s best, dear, that I let you go But darling, this I must tell you
As I walk, dear, from your door
You’ll never be worried anymore
But darling, this I must tell you
As I walk, dear, from your door
You’ll never be worried anymore
When I was a kid growing up in the 50’s, Johnny Ace was a big deal! My cousins, who were older, would buy the sheet music for all of his songs! They would gather around the upright piano in our living room and harmonize. We didn’t have American Bandstand or Soul Train. We danced and sang along with them!
My favorite Johnny Ace song. Reminds me of my first heart ache. Thanks, Lolita, where ever you are. I've forgotten you but this song is still with me. Believe I came out ahead!!!
Love this song right here.
Philippians 4:8
Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any moral excellence and if there is any praise, dwell on these things.
Johnny " Board" (read O T I S ) Orchestra. Classic Don Robey BS.
Nonetheless, classic Johnny Ace.
One does wonder if Ace had been able to break the Robey formula, what direction his sound may have taken.
He shot himself in the head (by accident). He liked to play with guns, which I find strange due to the fact that his songs are love songs (ballads if you will), not rough stuff like Little Willie John, Amos Milburn & Roy Brown who you could easily believe carry a gun always. Just a sensitive young guy with an ear for the ballads, pouring out his soul what a tragic end.
My cousins, who were older introduced me to Johnny Ace when I was very young. It was during the early fifties when you could really appreciate the lyrics and the vocals! We would all try to harmonize right along with record whether we really could sing or not! The tempo of his songs made practicing dancing easy to do as well. Those were enjoyable experiences!
