I've never heard the original song sung by the writer since now. It is very beautiful but the version of the Beatles and sung by John Lennon is better

An excellent song - unfortunately, when I mention this song to to others, it is ALWAYS confused with the "Bad Boys" theme from COPS.

Larry Williams was a genius. Period. He was a genius. There is no more or less to be said about him.

In 1959, they had Chuck, Buddy, and the Everly's. Nonetheless, this is very progressive. I did know they had "rock and roll books on a magazine stand" in the '50s. No wonder John Lennon gravitated to this cat for excellent cover songs.

I also prefer the Beatles cover better but I have great admiration for the original version. Great lyrics. "He puts a tack on teacher's chair, puts chewing gum in little girls hair, now junior behave yourself". I'd like to think he got some royalties for his songs that the Beatles covered.

Love the Beatles but this version is a rocker. Odd to read every song the Beatles ever covered is somehow better than the original? I guess if that's what you know then you think it's better. My older relatives would never listen to the Beatles versions because they were too grounded in Larry Williams. My Aunt gave me some Larry Williams albums about 20 years ago and I was amazed by how much of a rocker he was. I never heard him before, at least I never knew I was hearing him, but I knew all the Liverpool Lads versions of Mr. Williams songs. Now i prefer the originals although I still love the cover versions. I once saw Willie Dixon live back when he was still rocking. I can't listen to Zeppelin version of Dixon songs anymore.
