Typical Hollywood nonsense. These jitterbugging professional dancers, who appear to be in their thirties, have nothing to do with rock n roll. Larry is great though.
I share the same name but, Damn this fellow was an unsung hero. I,m afraid my
knowledge of this influential artist was severely lacking. Thank God my eyes are open.
Real, real Cool! The dancers are a bunch of pros. The clips are from 50's R&Roll movies like "Don't Knock The Rock." You can tell because Bill Hayley's Comets are pictured in one scene.Larry Williams!!!
Yeah, the Beatles sure thought he was special, and so do I. But I'd never even heard of him 'til I heard them do "Slow Down" when I was 13, their version of which I instantly loved, and then looked at the credits on the album.Who was "L. Williams"? I did some research, found out his full name, but it was very hard to get any records by him, or similar regional r&b artists, in NYC in like 1964. If Sam Goody didn't have it, you were screwed. Back then (I know, I hate that preachy phrase too, but it applies here) you probably had to actually be in Memphis or New Orleans to buy those 45s or albums. I tellya, them young Brit boys (John, Mick, Eric &c.) eagerly waitin on docks in Liverpool a few years earlier for their ships to come in w/all the latest American local hits that probably didn't sell enough nationally in they US so they shipped 'em over to Britain---they got all the good stuff before we did!
