Wasn't he really Ireland's balladeer? I'm sure they are happy in Heaven, with Luke and Ronnie.

Apparently, this was Luke's favourite song, it was taught to him by a teacher who lived there, I live a few miles from Bunclody myself

That's amazing because when I heard Luke sing this particular song I knew there would never be a voice that could ever compete with him.It is the passion he sings this song with and I have always thought no person could ever sing with the passion that Luke did.You only have to listen to' Scorn not his simplicity'. It is such a shame that when I mention Luke was part of the Dubs that people just associate them with beer drinking songs.Until I heard this song in the 80's I couldn't decide who were the better folk group the Dubs or the Corries but this song clinched it for me.As an aside the Dubs were always regarded as an Irish rebel group and in their early days they did sing some rebel songs.I don't think Luke was comfortable with this as he was more involved with the music of the great Ewan MColl and latterly Phil Coulter.I recently heard a couple of CD's by the Corries and almost every song was about a conflict with the English or clan fighting clan.Ironic that Luke and Roy Williamson should both die of a brain tumor. Luke you are miles ahead of any other singer and you are a true legend and your name will be remembered forever.RIP Luke.Kelly are you still living in Hamilton?!! I'm still there!

Saw The Dubliners in London in the sixties ( Croydon Fairfield Halls and somewhere else). The original line-up - Luke Kelly, Barnie and the rest. Too young and stupid to appreciate what I was seeing. Not young any more, but nothing else has changed.

Yes, Luke considered it to be his finest recording. I would add two other recordings of his: On Raglan Road and The Shoals of Herring.

To Mark Pooley: Can you translate in French the lyrics or write them and I will try to translate them. Who or what is Bunclody. Luke Kelly is the best troubadour of Ireland and the soul of the Dubliners.
