Didn t know what it felt like to be alive, i get my hands on some money momma
Some strange religion, some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around
Gonna honestly try, this life might eventually just be the end of me, didn t know what it felt like to be alive
some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around
Didn t know what it felt like to be alive, gonna honestly try
Gonna honestly try, this life might eventually just be the end of me
you could see i m no easy ride
Some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around, will i still be with you
like nobody else could be keep my hands on the wheel now momma
some strange religion
and this buick s a century
we ll just keep drivin
She looked past the scars and the burned out eyes, just keep driving
Some strange religion, we ll just keep drivin
And this buick s a century, like nobody else could be keep my hands on the wheel now momma
And a shot in the night, you could see i m no easy ride
Didn t know what it felt like to be alive, did they know they were walking on holy ground
til you been a friend to me
we ll just keep drivin
Some strange religion, now i know there s no easy ride, the buick s a century
i get my hands on some money momma
just keep driving
I get my hands on some money momma, some strange religion
some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around
almost called it a day so many times
Shoulda known they were walking on holy ground, the buick s a century Strange, the buick s a century
she s just the kind who might get you to buy
Stared down the past and just scarred my eyes, the buick s a century, she s just the kind who might get you to buy
Some strange religion, i get my hands on some money momma Mark, and a shot in the night
She s just the kind who might get you to buy, cause of you i been alive, because of you i see a light
Will i still be with you, gonna honestly try, you could see i m no easy ride
Will i still be with you, the buick s a century
Can you stay here next to me?
We'll just keep drivin'
Because of you I see a light
The Buick's a Century, a '73 like you
Some strange religion
I get my hands on some money momma, and a shot in the night
Stared down the past and just scarred my eyes
Now I know there's no easy ride
She's been the kind who would take it in stride
Some jack of diamonds kicked her heart around
Did they know they were walking on holy ground?
Almost called it a day so many times
Didn't know what it felt like to be alive
'Til you been a friend to me, like nobody else could be
Keep my hands on the wheel now momma
Gonna honestly try
She looked past the scars and the burned out eyes
You could see I'm no easy ride
She's just the kind who might get you to buy
Some strange religion
This jack of diamonds kicked her heart around
Shoulda known they were walking on holy ground
This life might eventually just be the end of me, will I still be with you
There's a Gideon next to me, just keep driving
Cause of you I been alive
And this Buick's a Century, '73 like you
Some strange religion
The Buick's a Century, '73 like you
Some strange religion
I love the song. Was introduced to it by the one and only Anthony Bourdain on Seattle show. However, I still don’t get the meaning of some part of the song. Does anyone know what Mark is referring to by Buick 73?
Anthony Bourdain was one of my favorite chefs, authors and TV personalities. I loved all his shows, Cook's Tour, No Reservations, Parts Unknown et. al. I will miss him greatly and in fact already do. Thanks Tony for exposing me to Mark Lanegan. I now listen to Mark all the time especially this masterpiece "Strange Religion". Anthony you were the coolest guy on the planet. Maybe someday I will understand. For now RIP and I miss you buddy!!

Anthony Bourdain just gave me the most glorious ending..............
Did they know they were walking on holy ground?
Almost called it a day so many times
Didn't know what it felt like to be alive
'Til you been a friend to me, like nobody else could be
Keep my hands on the wheel now momma.
As uncool as i may seem I just came upon this song from Antony Bourdain in what i can only described as inspired tv... i hope true Mark friends won't object
Love this sound, his rough simplicity
I'm now a fan, first time hearing his sound on Parts Unknown with Anthony Bourdain. I've been very sadden by Anthony's death, this song and the scene on the Seattle show made me feel Anthony's soul is set Free.
I miss him and pray for his daughter
