Saw him play this one in concert in the late 70's. Loved it.  And he ROCKED Hey Jude. 

My mom had this on record, he is one of my favorite trumpet players, and his ability to own the register never ceases to amaze me

Odd fact - this arrangement was written by Jay Chattaway, who went on to write the theme for Star Trek the Next Generation.

I really miss these kinds of orchestrations.  I don't think we'll ever get back these times in music. 

i bought this album. 1976-1978 good yrs for maynard ferguson -- "rocky" movie came out and he does "gonna fly now" -- "star trek-the motion picture" -- and hits big with the iconic "star trek" theme.

Best version of this song I have ever heard. Maynard is incredible

Awesome but you faded out the stratospheric note at the end! In high school I was messing around one day and learn how to fake squeal the last note! I couldn't do it that loud, but it was very easy! One day I did it into an open mic! I put on a big show like I was really straining and pulled the horn away from my mouth really quickly! Blew all the first chair trumpets away! They were always jerks to me so I never did tell them how I did it! LOL

I was in high school when this album was released. Great music.
