Don't do a lot of covers - never did. I did this one a few times back in the day, but it always got stuck in my throat. There's about 5 great songs that matter to me that I simply can't do because they get me every time, to the point that I just can't sing 'em. Ian Hunter has always been one of my major influences as a songwriter. ~ Loki Sez

Always loved this! Reminded me of my childhood & meeting my husband in adulthood! :) Love IAN & Mick! Met them both at a record signing back in the day! They were both so sweet! :)

Mott. Takes me right back to the 70's. Ralphs, on guitar, went on to play w/ Bad Co. Singer Paul Rogers (Free, Bad Co.), watching Mott record, is said to have shook his head saying "why does he bother?" referring to Ian Hunter's vocals. Thanks Ian, for proving that there's more to singing than just having a good voice... I dig Ian's singing every bit as much as Roger's. Ian once said "Mott is an acquired taste..." I acquired that a long time ago.

my brother had this album on an 8track and i played it over and over until it got too hot to play. Mott the Hoople were one of the best bands no one has heard of. They had great rocking tunes like Drivin Sister and beautiful songs like this one, one of my favorites, they were a great band live and in the studio. Check out Ian hunters solo stuff too.LONG LIVE ROCK!!!!

First time hearing this. Beautiful. How ironic. met a girl I mean a lady. We've got somethings in common. Really like her. I just wish I would of know her back way back then. Lyrics still hold. Thanks

Intensely sad song. They could project despair like no other band.

They climbed to the top of the mountain with this album and then being Mott the Hoople promptly fell straight off again ! This track was Ian Hunter at his peak and the lyrics are quite beautiful, still standing up today nearly 40 years later. The whole album wasn't quite a masterpiece but it was the best thing they ever did and elevated them to temporary greatness. They're still my favourite band.

I say both this, and the next one were forgotten masterpieces.

It's a cold rainy day and I thought of this song ... back in the day I played it over and over. When it started to play today, I broke down and cried. Memories rushed me and flooded my eyes with tears. We lost it. Where have all l those concert goers gone? Are their sons at war? Another generation gone? "When will we ever learn"? This was the best time of my life. We were all brothers and sisters through our music.
