SLOW FLUX was the finest Steppenwolf album ever released. The writing and musicianship were at a true peak, as well as the excellent fusion of hard rock and jazz with the inclusion of horns. STRAIGHT SHOOTIN' WOMAN was so tight compared to so many John Kay performances where his vocals don't always follow the music closely, where his writing gets complex. He's one of the finest vocalists in rock history when he's as tight as the music.

I remember this song playing in my VW Bug when it was hitting somewhere in the top 40 when I was in college. I burnt three 8 track players out with Steppenwolf albums. :) ... Not to mention forever yanking on those stupid 8 track tapes in an attempt to tighten up the tape!

Sparrow, was formed in Canada. Later morphed into Steppenwolf in L.A. Members were Canadian. Dennis Edmonton (Mars Bonfire) drummer Jerry Edmonton and Goldy McJohn were all Canadian. John Kay and bass player Nick St. Nicholas, were both born in Germany and had immigrated to Canada. Had pretty much the same line up. In L.A. record producer Gabriel Meklar suggested the name change to Steppenwolf.Later guitarist Michael Monarch and bassist Rushton Moreve joined the band later. .
