This is a re-recording with the 1954 Goodman band. Still a very good studio recording of this number. The original was recorded in 1939.

this is a great version of this song. There are quite a few more little intricacies here that make the piece even more epic!

This music IS still popular but not in the way it was back then. But I still agree with your comment, Jazz to the top hopefully!!!

I discovered this in a big band collection of LPs when I was in high school in the 70's. I have found very few my age that love it. I did have a girlfriend in the late 70's that said "Why was i wasting my time listening to rock?"

Ever since I was a little kid growing up in Chicago in the 50's I have loved big bands and particularly Goodman. That clarinet goes through me like fine wine. My friends would be listening to Elvis, etc and I would be listening to Goodman, Shaw, Miller and others. Can you sit back and hear the announcer? "High above Lawrence Avenue on Chicago's North side in the Aragon Ballroom"....... No time in history is perfect. What's good for some was bad for others but I still miss those times. I remember when you walked down the street in Chicago, you greeted everyone, if you knew them or not. People were polite, respectful. Try greeting strangers now, you will probably get arrested.

I miss hearing this every day.  I could play it now myself but it wouldn't be the same.  It has to start with my Dad keeping time on the kitchen table, then moving to his snare & top hat in the center of the livingroom.  Benny Goodman has to fill the house until it can be heard across the street!

I wish this was the sound coming out of my FM radio when I turn it on. Instead I hear garbage.
