"Pre-drums" Haley barely removed from his days as a Delaware Valley area Western Swing act with Danny Cedrone on standard guitar. Essentially the same group who recorded a drum-less cover of "Rocket 88" about a year prior. Recorded for Essex Records in Philadelphia. They would add drums on their final Essex sides before signing with Decca in 1954 and recording "Thirteen Women"/ "Rock around The Clock" in April 1954. By the time RATC hit in 1955 due to its inclusion as the title track to MGM's "Blackboard Jungle", half of the group had already quit with Cedrone having died 8 weeks after the RATC recording session. Bill Haley & his Comets recorded this track in 1952 and released it as Essex 305. The flip side was "Rockin' Chair on The Moon." The next year "Crazy Man Crazy" (Essex 321) became the group's first national chart hit -- and of course we all know what happened after "Rock Around The Clock" (Decca 29124) was rleased in 1954.
