Released one year before Bill's R&R anthem "Rock Around The Clock". Pre-Rock, R&B, DooWop, Race Music, etc, from the postwar late 40s/early 50s is SOOOOO very underrated and deserves its own radio format, IMHO!!!
Recorded in 1953 for the Essex label at the Redo Art Studios, in Philadelphia
Musicians featured are the Comets (Billy Williamson (steel guitar), Johnny Grande (piano),Joey D'Ambrosio (saxophone), Marshall Lytle (bass)), and session musicians Art Ryerson (lead guitar) and Billy Gussak (drums)
Bob Scardudio (?, not sure of the spelling) on lead guitar.
A thinner more overdriven sound than Danny Cedrone and like Cedrone, only appeared on recordings.
This is one of Haley's last Essex sides, regional sellers in the Mid Atlantic region.
In his pre Decca days, Haley was booked at least as far south as Baltimore at times.
This(with Cedrone on guitar) is essentially the band that went to NYC in April 1954 to record "RATC".
After RATC became a hit in 1955, the Essex sides were rereleased to capitalize on the new found Haley fame. There were some legal actions surrounding this and the Essex contract itself.
After Haley's passing, these sides and his earlier work on Vogue and other Philadelphia based labels were repackaged and are readily available today.
