The middle position with both single coils active gives it a nice humbucker tone, but with more dynamic range.

The pseudo "trippy" camera work comes from those who edited it I believe, not necessarily the cameraman. It was when they took this footage back to their studio and tried to simulate the drug effect with all those quick cuts.

There's studio recordings of it though mate, it's tagged on the end of my...ahem...downloaded version. A real tough take too, Clapton's searing on lead. The band had a unique sound.

Never understood why he didn't play the Telecaster more often. It has more punch than a Strat but has that Fender open sound. He sounds great here.
