That intro! That bass line.....and all that stuff percolating and bubbling up in just the very two minutes of this classic Where do you hear stuff like this nowadays? The Goodsall guitar solo....my,.my,.my! And through it all is Phil Collins kicking butt and taking names. Great, great tune. I just want to immerse myself in it.......again.
Did I miss something? This was the first tune to get me into Brand X and Percy Jones bass style is the shit PERIOD! Secondly I love Bonzo but he can't swing or put soul into those feels like this drummer did! I sworn it was Phil Collins or Narrada Michael Walden but none the less it made me respect Phil's drumming way more than Genesis era and it's FUNKY
Criminally underated. Great first album. Phil would've just taken over vocals with his little known band Genesis. A Trick Of The Tail. 1976. Wow can't believe it.
My good buddy Geoff Clague introduced me to Brand X, among many fusion, and prog-rock bands in the 70's. Still sounds as fresh and timeless as ever. Thanx for the amazing upload!!!
'long attention span' ? You're talking 30 years ago when Mahavishnu Orchestra sold 500,000 copies of "Birds of Fire" & Yes had many albums out with 20 minute songs !!
People's attention span back then was just fine.
It's only screwed up today by design. It wasn't the people's choice to shorten their 'attention span' & go listen to Disco, Punk, New Wave and Rap. It was FORCED on them by mass media & social engineering. The hippies were getting too intellectual & the trend had to be reversed.
Phil Collins is one hell of a drummer! Bonham was a damn good drummer but I've always felt he was slightly overrated, I think Phil Collins and Nick Mason (Pink Floyd) to be the most underrated drummers in rock music. Check out 'Any Colour You Like - live at Wembley' for some insane drumming from Mason
