Most people think of Phil Collins only as a successful pop singer. He is (or maybe, unfortunately, he was) a top-quality drummer. Don't you believe? So, just listen...
Phil Collins is a precise, correct, and accurate drummer and has a sense of the rhythm fantastic.
I do not understand why many American and English magazines do not consider him, as if it were a "mediocre drummer". Craziness!
I have yet to hear (in recent times, 1970, 1980, 2000 etc, etc) of this level drummers. However the magazine "Rolling Stones" P.Collins considers a "mediocre". Maybe he did not pay the bribe ...
A lot of people give props to Phil because of this track, but you have to take into account the rest of the guys, the constant awesome bass lines by Percy, the awesome guitar riff by Goodsall and the captivating heavily-delayed keyboard solo by Lumley. Everyone in this album is insanely skilled! The rest of this album keeps this same level of awesomeness. There are bands and musicians who are extremely skilled, yet they can come up with music this good.
Phil is now suffering from the repetitive motion injuries that drumming can engender. I hope he takes some comfort in the incredible brilliance of this sort of work.
Not going to lie.... Before hearing this I thought Phil Collins was an overrated drummer. I was then directed to this and I have no words on how good he is in this.
Tremendous. Britain's answer to Mahavishu and Weather Report. Of ths extra curricular activity, Phil Collins onces remarked that Genesis was the "staid wife" while Brand X was the "mistress with the big tits"!
I had the pleasure of seeing Brand X when they toured with Genesis on the "And Then There Were Three" tour.Phil pulled double duty.It was at the CNE stadium in Toronto , great show
I never, never tire of this. Phil is one of my favorite drummers, Percy one of my favorite bassists. Love the work the two of them have done on some of Brian Eno's music.
