Commercially unsuccessful single about the finer points of Liverpool back in the day but highly memorable stuff and a great sounding tune from one of many, many highly underrated groups of the 80s!
God I love this song thank u for uploading it took me over 2-decades to find this song s fave of my dad and mines!!!! Bless ur heart!!!! Im in tears of joy
Love the little touches by Walter Becker (R.I.P.) and it seems he is now teaming up with early music mentor Randy California who also left us way too soon. Thanx for posting this exquisite tune.
It's like im in the 80's again doing the things that has been very memorable to my...i spent days listening to their music( cassette tape,lp's) i had them.
Am I right in saying there are local references to their home town in the song:
'St Kevin' refers to their old school
'John the Boxer' is John Conteh former world light heavuweight boxng champ
'Phil the Captain' is Phil Thompson, ex Liverpool FC captain?
Good song!
The town they sing about
Is Kirkby just out side Liverpool, St Kevin is St Kevin's school they went to, John the boxer is John Conteh also from Kirkby and phil the captain of the cause is Phil Thompson captain of liverpool football club Phil is also from Kirkby I used to live in the same block of flats as Nicky London in Kirkby.
