Wake up, wake up
King in a catholic style
With your man
With your man make up
And your big money business smile
Cut 'em up, cut 'em up
Crucial to every child
With a mind
With a mind made up
And your main man confidence smile
The residential black sea band
They rose up out of a sinking sand
The presidential elect man said
For what you want takeme instead
Wake up, wake up
Exercise your every right
With your plan
On the up and up
And your prize money struggle in sight
Cut 'em up, cut 'em up
Physical in every way
Tough enough, tough enough
Face up
And blow your big body blues away
The 80s was a remarkable time for all genres of music
The crap that’s out there today will never match my generation
I’m now 50 my god the years so clock up fast
I remember NME having a go at China Crisis for having random lyrics, chosen for how they sound rather than what they mean. Seems like a bit of a harsh criticism to me - lyrics are a form of poetry, and it's acceptable to have poetry which "sounds nice" rather than having a deep meaning. This seems like one of the more coherent lyrics anyway.
This song always reminds me of a chippy in Govanhill Glasgow in 1985, it was playing on the radio in the chippy when I went into get a chip roll. Funny how the brain works!!?
I'm from the Wirral, a surreal artist, exiled in dull old London and I love China Crises, typical inventive, surreal and witty Merseysiders, with some great melodic, thoughtful tunes. This Rene Magritte inspired video is ace, and is exactly like a mad dream youd have whilst asleep, the head splitting in two like you are one thing on the surface and another in your mind is psychologically fascinating. BTW am exhibiting at View Two Gallery Stuckist show Liverpool if you like surreal art.
47 thumbs down?! Morons! How could you not love this classic song? I saw these guys live a few years ago and met them afterwards. Great guys. Viva 80s!!!
