With the birds i ll sing this song, and the sun in the sky is like your laugh, like golden corn at harvest time your hair
On the day in spring when snow starts to melt, sailing in my boat the wind
Gently blows and fills my sail, daylight peeping through the curtain
Come back to me my nancy, daylight peeping through the curtain
Standing by the ocean wondering where you ve, down by bluebell stream where wild flowers grow
The portrait of your beauty stays the same, sailing in my boat the wind Spain, and streams to flow
With the birds i ll sing this song, sailing in my boat the wind
down by bluebell stream where wild flowers grow
The portrait of your beauty stays the same, where is the ring i gave to nancy spain Moore, on the day in spring when snow starts to melt
Of all the stars that ever shone, on the day in spring when snow starts to melt
by your name
Of all the stars that ever shone, the portrait of your beauty stays the same
the portrait of your beauty stays the same
And the sun in the sky is like your laugh, where is the ring i gave to nancy spain, no matter where i wander i m still haunted
the portrait of your beauty stays the same
by your name
sailing in my boat the wind
and i ll hope that lovely nancy will return
Since you left these shores i ve known no peace, and streams to flow Moore, like golden corn at harvest time your hair
Standing by the ocean wondering where you ve, gently blows and fills my sail
And i ll hope that lovely nancy will return, since you left these shores i ve known no peace Nancy, come back to me my nancy
since you left these shores i ve known no peace
Sailing in my boat the wind, on the day in spring when snow starts to melt
By your name, daylight peeping through the curtain
Since you left these shores i ve known no peace, of all the stars that ever shone Spain, gently blows and fills my sail
like golden corn at harvest time your hair
Of all the stars that ever shone, and i ll hope that lovely nancy will return
Daylight peeping through the curtain, the portrait of your beauty stays the same Moore, then in the while i ll wander
With the birds i ll sing this song, with the birds i ll sing this song

Just thinking of my dear son took to soon age 27 .
I remember going to see Christy in barrowland with him .
The memory will live with me forever
Thanks Christy
Beautiful reading these comments, folks.
I'm a Scots Glasgow Bhoy, with a strong Irish bloodline (having done our Family Tree several years ago). So close, yet so far.
Cultural and musical heroes like Christy make us feel at home when they come to Scotland.
Erin go Bragh
Ahhh, I remember well Christy's performance of this in Edinburgh some years ago. "No wonder they call this the European city of culture" he announced, " Some of the audience there were singin' the harmony!" Of course, there were busloads from Glasgow there an' all...........
This song always reminds me of my Granny, Nancy Macdonald from Glen Roy who was a nurse in Salonika in WW1 - she returned to marry her beau Dr Sandy Watson in 1918 who was a MO with the Royal Scots on Gallipoli...their love endured...
just read your comments. irish music is a strange thing, it creeps up on you and grabs your heart. A wonderfull people a shame us brits caused them so much trouble. I am so glad you like the song
I'm travelled from germany to kerry to See Christy live. Don't understand all the lyrics, but his and voice makes me cry all the time. Can't get enough from Christy! I love Ireland and the irish People and culture. Thanks!
