My 21-year-old daughter has profound autism and is only barely communicative. She was diagnosed at 2, so for about the past 19 years I've wondered and marveled at what's going on in her sweet head. There is one set of lines I cannot seem to get past without thinking of her and breaking into tears: "There's a bird that nests inside you, Sleeping underneath your skin Yeah, when you open up your wings to speak, I wish you'd let me in" No better words ever written to describe the haunting pain of a parent of a spectrum child. Daddy loves you, Rosebud.

"I walk along these hillsides, in the summer 'neath the sunshine, I am feathered by the moonlight...fallin' down on me." One of the most beautiful parts to any song.

I hadn't listened to this in 20+ years until recently This song would make me cry my heart out at 16. And when i listened to it again, i wasn't expecting anything, it was just some old song i used to listen to. And it caught me offguard and tore right through me and there i was, crying like i was still 16. Things don't ever change. Not really anyway.

I dreamt I saw you walking up a hillside in the snow Casting shadows on the winter sky as you stood there counting crows One for sorrow Two for joy Three for girls and four for boys Five for silver Six for gold and Seven for a secret never to be told.....

Adam has said it is a song about domestic abuse. His charity almost always has a booth for domestic abuse at shows (or at least they have in the past - I live in Hawaii so I don't get to see current shows). Why don't you tell me how the lyrics support your interpretation (whatever it is) instead of just telling me I'm wrong and making assumptions about my personal life?

This song seems to me as a bookend. With Round Here as the first part. Just my thoughts. It almost always forces me to start the record again. Either way, this is an album meant to be heard all the way from the start. I love good music and this record is a favorite, rich with a tortured geniuses thoughts plus a band that backs them up wonderfully with sound.

its just a song about unrequited love. some world play on murder of crows and murder of one.....the murder of one is him....because she never leaves the other dude and it hurts him pretty badly. that's how i took it. metaphorically speaking.

I used to be this girl.  Several friends, family members and a couple of lovers tried telling this kind of message to me.... It took a long time, but once I finally learned to love who I am, everything change, change, changed. :)

I wanted to hear this song today because my wife said something to me that made me think I've wasted 15 years of my life. "you don't wanna waste your life"

"We were perfect when we started, I've been wondering where we've gone." I empathize with those that haven't felt that.
