People get ready
There’s a train coming
You don’t need no bag you just get on Board
All you need is Faith to reduce us our harming
You don’t need no Ticket you just thank the Lord
People get ready for the Train to Jordan
Picking up Passengers from Coast to Coast
Faith is the Key open the Doors and pull them
There’s room for all of the love in us Now there ain’t no room for the hopeless sinner
Just hold on be kind to save us all
Have pity on those whose chance is a mirror
There’s no hidin place from the keen storm
Repeat verse 1
I’m getting ready
I’m ready
Diagnosed with recurrent melanoma in July 1996, Eva passed in November. A great talent, who never reached her full potential. I will always find it ironic that she didn't think people would like her voice. Imagine. She hated being recorded because of self-consciousness. So many recordings were often done without her knowing it was happening, to keep her at ease. I'm grateful for it.
THANK YOU for this!!
50 years ago this week Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions hit the charts with People Get Ready. Nobody ever did it better... until Eva. One take. Live. As close to perfect as a song can be.
I played this for my mom when she was in a coma with multiple myloma. I would hold her hand and hope she could hear it. Eva has the most beautiful voice ever.
People get ready
There's a train a-coming
You don't need no baggage
You just get on board
All you need is faith
To hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
You just thank the Lord
People get ready
For the train to Jordan
Picking up passengers
From coast to coast
Faith is the key
Open the doors and board them
There's room for all
among the loved the most
There ain't no room
for the hopeless sinner
Who would hurt all mankind just
To save his own
Have pity on those
whose chances are thinner
Cause there's no hiding place
From the Kingdom's Throne
So people get ready
for the train a-comin'
You don't need no baggage
you just get on board !
All you need is faith
to hear the diesels humming
Don't need no ticket
you just thank, you just thank the Lord
Yeah
Ooh
Yeah
Ooh
I'm getting ready
I'm getting ready
this time I'm ready
this time I'm ready
Eva puts so much passion into every song she sings. If she sings about a train, you find yourself on that train. When she sings about fields of gold, you're walking through fields of gold. This can't be taught. It's a God given talent. And when it comes to the few people who have this talent, Eva Cassidy is far ahead of them all. RIP Eva.
MY wife and I were there at Blues Alley for her CD release concert, and had a very brief chat with her about the time we had seen her with Chuck Brown. What a sweet, lovely woman with the voice of an angel.
I've seen many injustices ... but this one, eva cassidy not being recognized in life, is crazy, one of the most beautiful and expressive voices in the world.
The real test of any artist is just to get up and perform live without any studio drop ins and digital wizardry....Eva shines like the true star she is. R..I.P beautiful woman. Without a doubt the Angels will rejoice at your coming.
