Yes, baby, I’ve been drinkin'
Shouldn’t come by anymore
But I found myself in trouble, darlin'
And I have no place else to go
I got some whiskey from a bottle
Got some cocaine from a friend
And I had to keep on movin', darlin'
Till I was back in your arms again
And I’m guilty, I am guilty
And I’ll be guilty for the rest of my life
How come I’m never gonna do
What I’m supposed to do
Seems like everything I do
Never turns out right
That’s how it is with me, darlin'
You know I just can’t stand myself
But it takes a whole lot of medicine, darlin'
For me to pretend that I’m somebody else
This the second album I ever owned.. after AC/DC Dirty Deeds. I remember listening to this song at age 6 and not understanding why the last line talks about him pretending to be somebody else... This is still one of my top all-time favorite albums. It helped shape me and who I am today. Nowadays, the meaning of this song is so clear and the lyrics speak to me directly. Only difference is I don't drink anymore and none of my friends ever give me cocaine. For about 5 years, I have been trying to explain myself to and show my girlfriend who I really am. She never understood what I was trying to tell her. I sent her this link to Guilty.. and now I think she gets it 100%. She cried for a long time after listening, but since she understands I am tired of running from myself and pretending to be somebody else, this song brought her hope and strength through empathy. Nazareth continues to impact my life.
Damn I love this song, I can really relate, you know i just can't stand myself, and it takes a whole lot of medicine darlin, for me to pretend I'm somebody else
What would life be like not knowing who Nazareth are? I don't really want to think about it. Life just wouldn't be the same; couldn't be as good. BEST BAND EVER= NAZARETH!!!
this song always has a way to submerge me into another place so long ago .... My older brother played it for me years ago and I think it speaks for him .. i understand now , so peace be with you my brother ... it also speaks of me years ago.. we were the same back then.. love you so much!
no one sings like Dan...he has the ability to take the rawness and edge in his voice to a real emotional level...something the AC/DC /Accept, and a lot of followers of this type of tone have never really succeeded at. closest to this was Noddy Holder from slade....
Listened to Randy Newman...and Joe Cocker .... NAZARETH IS THE BEST!!!! No one can outdo Dan!!!! If Dan sang this to me... I would would just melt!!!!!!
