Nick Drake - Northern Sky download song

he didn't express happiness too often in his music, but when he did it was just as powerful and beautiful as his sorrow

I hate to be one of those people, but I came across this brilliant man's music when I saw the movie Serendipity in 2001 and I swear I felt like I had been in the dark at 13 years of age with what music could make you feel. I've only been a fan of this man for a little under 15 years, but it's better late than never. I'm now 6 months pregnant and I have played Mr. Drake's music to my little boy, he will grow up knowing beautiful music such as this. I promise. :)

This song has always been a staple for me (in my few years of life thus far: I'm most likely the only teenager chilling to Nick Drake). My parents would play it on long road trips, and ever since I was little, looking up at the night sky during this song makes me feel so at peace. When I looked closer at the lyrics, I realized that this song is incredibly beautiful in its lyricism (in addition to its sound), and also quite romantic. Nick Drake was truly a poet, and his music gives me such an amazing sense of joy.

John Cale's production and arrangement here are awe inspiring. They lift the melody and lyrics to the highest musical peaks. Stunning song that never ages.

Saw the northern lights once on a fishing trip in northern Saskatchewan, Canada. My Dad, my two brothers, my Dad's best friend, and three of his boys. Sitting around the fire pit after supper drinking and telling stories with my oldest friends. We've known each other our whole lives. Me and two of my oldest friends stayed out after the pit was out to see the lights. It started at the horizon and crept up until it covered half the night sky. Various shades of silver and white. Truly breathtaking. Gave each other a big hug, made our way to the cabins, and went to sleep. One of the best nights of my life. This song reminds me of that sky. Caught two 40.5" northern pikes that trip to boot. A great time.

The first song I sang to my son when he was a baby, he always smiles when I play it now eleven years on. I love Nick Drake.

Fun fact: John Cale of the Velvet Underground played piano, celeste and organs on this song. This is the official song of my sobriety.

Seriously flipped out when hearing this song in the theatre for A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood.

it's unbelievable that he felt that he didn't influence other people's lives...his music touched me deeply the instant i heard it.. i wish he were still here

Timeless, this could have been written and recorded yesterday - the definition of true art, this will last forever. Thanks Nick Drake, it’s a pity the Industry pushed Cat Stevens instead of you.
