While the video might be a bit cheesy, this is clearly one of the best damn songs to ever come out of the 1980's. Ronnie's great singing and Bruce Dees' rockin guitar solo make this song a classic. This should be in the set list of every cover band in America.
Damn that takes me back to my childhood. So glad my momma raised me on real country and rock. This is an "all time" song. Kinda sad when you hear what passes for country today. Long live the outlaws and the story tellers.
Man they just don't make them like this anymore. The level of talent that this generation of musicians had was pretty amazing compared to the auto tuned garbage of today.
I went thru a lot of the comments, tho not all...I found lots of compliments for Ronnie Milsap's talent (no argument here, he was great), and lots of complaints about modern music. I'm 71, have listened to country music since Hank Sr. I can agree, there was a boatload of really fine country music in the old days...but there was also plenty of crappy stuff, too. Just like today's music. I don't remember any artists from 50 or 60 years ago that were better than Brad Paisley, George Strait, Randy Travis, or Chris Ledoux. OK, you may consider the last three as "old timers", but to me they are still modern, recent, and fresh. Yes, I loved Johnny Cash, Hank Sr, Patsy Cline, Faron Young, and others. Still do. And I loved The singers of the 70's and 80's too - but I can still admire, respect, and love the sounds of Paisley, Little Big Town, Nickel Creek, Miranda Lambert, and a slew of others. And the musicianship of most country bands today is IMHO much superior to the vast majority of overamped rock bands. One last thought -- Ronnie sang this song, and did it well. But I don't find even one mention of the incredible Mike Reid, who wrote it, and so many other great country songs. Give credit where credit is due.
I'm 60 yrs old and Ronnie is one of the best entertainers around, I live in Henderson NC, 50 miles from the old Gov. Moorehead School that Ronnie went to in his early years. He used to play at the NC state fair years ago and we always packed Dorton just to hear him play. Great man love to see him again.
