LOVE this bossa nova instrumental and have never tired of it. Remember coming home from high school on those beautiful, warm days in September, 1966, and hearing this playing through my mother's ever-present kitchen counter radio...
This song makes me so happy! I feel like I'm in some kitchy 60's backyard movie scene with men in tennis sweater vests and white shorts, and women in their fluffy cocktail dresses, and they all enjoy the pleasures of a "healthy" cigarette.
Coming home from Vietnam in 1967 this tune was playing on the airplane. I couldn't understand how I could board an airplane in the heat and Chinooks and Hueys and hear such happy music all the way to Ft. Lewis Washington. I survived 367 days in war but I didn't know if I could survive a world of people who had no idea what I had been through. I still think of Vietnam whenever I hear this music. It is still difficult.
