What we forget, on his "'pop"" tracks like "'Caravan"' "'What The World Needs Now Is Love"' and "'How Insesitive"' he puts in some of his finest solos inspite of the syrupy strings etc. LOL.
He literally burns it up on "'Caravan""!
I wish someone would remix/issue all the verve albums sans orchestra. a la trio or quartet...strings not needed etc. to me,all the things that were added to "commercialize" him, actually detracted from Wes's mega talent.
I had the album "Road Song" when I was in High School back in the late 1970's and I loved the guitar on that album. Later I heard some of the stuff without strings and where the octave thing wasn't like on every note. I like both periods but the earlier is probably better but I don't think you ever got ripped off if you bought a Wes Montgomery album, strings or no strings...
Ok, thanks for answer . In 60' , I was at the college and he was the biggest event in Jazz Guitar with his playing_thumb , singing chords.._Until now I continue to discover some tunes of his. So I propose you to visit his discography in Wikipedia but avoid those records with strings (Ogerman, Sebesky...) Just some ex. SMOKIN' AT THE HALF NOTE , FULL HOUSE .
Ok ! have good jazz moments
From one "Hoosier" to another Wes... This is my all time favorite song of yours... Like no sound of any other, smooth and mellow the Wes Montgomery sound! Awesome..!
Wes Montgomery... Indianapolis, Indiana!
Benson said that although Wes was sad he'd " gone commercial"' that was the only period where he saw Wes eat well, drive a nice car and have a wider range of suits. Wes was still burning on after hours sessions.
I can't fault the guy for trying to live well. To me, Wes was the ultimate in grace, humility & integrity and I loved everything he did.
