Just a young man
By an old road
By the route he chose
An ancient song
Old tongue
For this man
Was sung
Oh i’m carrying a, heavy load
Can’t go no further down it’s a, long road
It’s a heavy load (oh a heavy load)
By a bright stream
Came an old dream
Things are never what they always seem
And so he went on
Travelling on
Now he’s a long way from home
(chorus)
(chorus) — repeat 3x
Living with my brother, 1972, 16 years old, one bedroom apt on Bradley Blvd in Bethesda, MD. No money, no car, no TV, only this album along with maybe two others played on an old suitcase style portable record player with the fold down turntable. Still love every song on the album deep inside me.
I'm sure everyone here is likely carrying a heavy load in life, I know I sure am. The road is long and at the end is just death. I hope people enjoy this video for years and years to come.
It’s so hard to believe that when they recorded this album their average age was more or less 19 years young. That is astonishing, so much talent, so mature. To produce music of this quality, incredible band.
I have only two words for this music, magical & addictive!!!!!
Still the most played vynil LP played, the entire album is absolute class. They say Led Zeppelin 4 was the groundbreaker...naaa, it was Fire and Water, the entire thing exudes soul, feel and what rock music should be. The guitaring on this album is simply majestic, vocals are stunning and by Christ, Andy Fraser plays that bass, while Simon keeps it all tight with some very intelligent percussion. I am and always will be, in awe of this entire LP.
I have replaced this record twice since 1970 till now simply from playing the hell out of it. This was in my humble opinion their finest album . We shall surely miss Paul Kossoff , he was such a major talent. Free showed what the 70s rock scene was really all about, playing well and not compromising the music for money. Total feel..
