This song is just about perfect on multiple levels: musical composition, lyrics, musicianship, arrangement, vocals, general aesthetics. Bravo!

Gene Pitney's generation would have sang for nothing, it was just in them. At age 64 I am still mesmerized at the music that came out of those days - 1950's, 60's and 70's.

Gene Pitney kissed me on my 16th birthday at Sydney stadium, my boyfriend was the bouncer and he arranged it a a surprise. Gene came off the stage and kissed me in front of the whole Audience, I was so surprised and embarrassed, I forgot to enjoy it. How nice was he to do that. Beautiful guy, beautiful voice.

Just watched this film on TCM....song isn't used in the movie, but it should have been.  John Wayne at his best!  Lee Marvin, and Jimmy Stewert, too.

He was adored here in the UK.  This track was not used for the  the soundtrack of the actual film. But a brilliant song nevertheless.

I always loved to see Lee Marvin play in any movie. He was so good at being bad.

I'm 44 and having my young kids listen and enjoy when people were talented and used a real voice.

Went to go see this movie in 1962 at the Riverside Drive In, in Norman, Oklahoma.  It was a double feature.  The second movie was God's Little Acre, if I recall.  Funny that I can remember this, but can't remember my grandchildren's names at times. Guess that's just part of growing older.  Anyway, I've always loved this song.  Thanks for posting this gem.
