When my chance came to be king, once i was so sure, the ghosts of my life
i m feeling nervous
It seems there s something i should know, the ghosts of my life
And i ve no particular place to go, when my chance came to be king
But the rain it never stops, just when i thought i could not be stopped
Just when i think i m winning, now i find myself alone
blow wilder than before
When my chance came to be king, blow wilder than before, the ghosts of my life
Just when i think i m winning, i ought to leave
And i ve no particular place to go, i m feeling nervous
It seems there s something i should know, i ought to leave
when my chance came to be king
just when i thought i could not be stopped
Just when i thought i could not be stopped, the ghosts of my life Ghosts, once i was so sure
And i ve no particular place to go, just when i think i m winning
Now i find myself alone, i m feeling nervous Japan, just when i think i m winning
Just when i think i m winning, i m feeling nervous
now the doubt inside my mind
Just when i think i m winning, the ghosts of my life Ghosts, when my chance came to be king
Blew wilder than the wind, blow wilder than before
comes and goes
The ghosts of my life, when i ve broken every door
the daylight almost gone
the ghosts of my life
but the rain it never stops
Blew wilder than the wind, just when i think i m winning
When my chance came to be king, i m feeling nervous
blow wilder than before
Blow wilder than before, when my chance came to be king, blow wilder than before
The ghosts of my life, the ghosts of my life, and i ve no particular place to go
when i ve broken every door
it seems there s something i should know
After forgetting about this for many years I bizarrely heard it in a dream last night and decided to check it out here.
It's as good as I remember.
Classic Japan.
For some reason Japan seems to have become an overlooked and almost forgotten band of the 80's. This is despite producing some of the classiest material of that decade.
Just wondering what some people think about this- If you turn up the volume at the beginning, you can just barely hear the space age sounds before they trigger in time. I am not sure why this is. It was likely unintentional, as it only happens at very high volume. I don't know much about tape, but considering this song was originally mastered on tape, I wonder if it had residual sound from previous recording attempts that didn't get fully wiped. If this is what it is, it's certainly beautiful that we got a piece of history like that even in the Digital Remaster. I don't know for sure, though, so correct me if I'm wrong. It just doesn't make sense to have the sounds there from a technical standpoint.
☺☺☺☺
There was an industrial site I used to walk through going home from work
That used to press out vinyl records
At one building they would dump records
That went wrong and you could pick up some for nothing this by Japan was one of them it played ok just had a squiffy
Label stuck on it
Puts most of the synth music made today to shame... These days everyone wants to sound like the latest 5-minute wonder, and sound design and synthesis forums are flooded with "how can I make a pluck" posts.
I actually almost forgot this song existed until i heard it last night on Synth Britannia on BBC 4.
What a masterpiece this is,it,s an absolute gem.
The mood of the song,Davids awesome voice, the odd, eery sounding synths,as well as the rest of the instruments used give it such an extraordinary, special sound.
Always wondered why There was a picture of Chairman Mao and a Vietnamise Hat on a cover for and Album by Japan?
Maybe Dave should have called the band "Far East"
Still got a copy of tin drum on Vinyl somewhere
