My Mom passed in 2004 to pancreatic cancer. "Bamboo" from "Is There Love In Space" reflects the emotion of those days. This song recaptures a lot those emotions. Thanks to Satch for creating such emotive and meaningful music that continues to reach into the soul.
This is why joe is a genuis on the guitar.. Never fails to impress with his solo's an techiques.. he is outstanding.. always makes the hairs stand up on the back of my neck lol.. keep it joe!!
I'm loving the songs he's putting out on this album. It's almost like he sat down, listened to his own masterpiece AKA the amazing Crystal Planet album, and said "Hey, I need to do some more of that." He has the tone nailed too. I always wondered what would have happened if he continued with that same stream of consciousness that he had during the Crystal Planet era. I feel that this music captures it perfectly.
My choice is that I listen to Satriani more and more. I am rediscovering him 20 odd years later and I am blown away to where he has evolved... maestro...
I have been playing since I was 12 and understanding music how its composed modes melodies and scales I can honestly say out of ALL the virtuosos and would be shredders. Joe has evolved and is light years beyond where he was when surfing came out. The dude has just gotten better with age and hasn't lost a beat. I've seen him twice and he's still mind blowing and innovative and fresh and relevant. There just isn't anyone better than Joe
I like to comment here: if old-time Satch fans are getting fed up with the way he composes and how his style of playing is 'ritual' (meaning, same tune, different expression), then I guess you have to make a decision - you either stop listening to Joe Satriani, or accept the way he plays.
I've been listening to Joe since I was a kid and I never get fed up with him. So do yourselves a favor and just enjoy his music. Peace!
I had to listen to this album like three times to get it. The more I listen, the more I hear the little things you've done to elevate your music to a higher level. For me, it's not about "omg, it has to be tremendously different". No. Instead, it's the continuation of a legacy; a tradition. Yes. Your music is a tradition for me and I simply do not feel that way about ANY other artist(s) on the planet. Period.
Thank you for yet another amazing album that I've actually purchased.
