E lucevan le stelle
e olezzava la terra,
stridea l’uscio dell’orto
e un passo sfiorava la rena.
Entrava ella, fragrante,
mi cadea fra le braccia.
Oh! dolci baci, o languide carezze,
mentr’io fremente
le belle forme disciogliea dai veli!
Svanì per sempre il sogno mio d’amore…
l’ora è fuggita,
e muoio disperato!
E non ho amato mai tanto la vita!
He surely could not be called lazy. He made seven movies in 10 years, from his first in 1949 until his last the year he died 1959. Plus personal appearances, etc. I saw his first movie at 13 years of age and have loved his music and him ever since. When I first saw him and heard him I didn't know anything about opera, but sure learned to appreciate it after hearing him. Don't know if I would like a complete opera, but loved the arias he sang. His voice would give me chills and I even learned how to sing Ave Maria in the language he sang it in after hearing it over and over again. I'm not a singer, but I can appreciate someone who can sing and there is none better than him or ever will be.
Mario was so blessed with the vocal chords, (and other anatomical stuff), needed to produce this amazing voice but also the passion and empathy for the character part he sang, there's so much emotion in his singing, just beautiful, always wells me up.
This performance is a wonderful example of the fantastic talent of Mario
Lanza. He was amazing. He was simultaneously a great tenor, a
marvelous recording artist, a global movie star and a highly sought
after concert performer. A splendid book captures his talent, passion
and love of his art: A KID FROM PHILADELPHIA, MARIO LANZA, THE VOICE OF
THE POETS. It is a beautiful homage and should be read while listening
to Mario sing.
There will never be another Mario Lanza. Having died in 1959 I say a postage. stamp is past overdue. Selena, a text message singer. who was slain in 1994 came out in either 2009 or 2010.How about Facebook. or tweet the USPS sort of a. petition?
There are no words to describe the fantastic voice of Mario Lanza! It is because of him that I came to love the opera. Now, I collect his music. You can purchase many of his great albums on Amazon. My eyes always tear up when I listen to him, there is such emotion in his voice. Tragically, he left us far too young.
For those that gave this recording a thumbs-down, I would recommend an immediate hearing test along with a major intervention as to their musical sensibilities! To find fault with this performance is to insult the intelligence of the rest of the listening world. The power, beauty, range, vibrancy and sheer magic in Lanza's delivery is most certainly a pure and incontrovertible lesson in what it is to be a great singer and interpreter. Beauty may be in the eye of the beholder, but in this case it arrives through the auditory nerves of which the thumbs-downers seem to sadly under-endowed! It is just too easy to click on a rejection button but not so easy to inform the rest of us as to why this has been done. But perhaps the predictable mealy-mouthed offerings would be best kept silent as opinions can only be valued when the source itself is qualified. Lanza can sing me into heaven any time and I suspect for those that are already there is presence is most magnificently felt!
