I'm so sick of hearing so called arm chair critics saying well he never sang in opera ,outside of a few performances,in most operas there are only one or two arias, the rest are duets trios and recitatives. Mario sang in concerts where he had to perform many arias, duets and songs. Better qualified conductors and opera singers testified to the size and operatic qualities of his voice. If Mario went into opera we never would have him on film and records. Ask someone on the street who Corelli or Del Monaco was , they will not have an idea who they were. Ask someone about Lanza and people in a older age group will know he was a great voice. Opera's loss was our gain. Leave it at that
Nothing compares to this wonderful aria by Mario Lanza. He had it all and had the most magnifecent voice of all time-he loved his public and sang with his heart and soul. I just wish I had been lucky enough to have seen him just once! He will never be forgotten!
i have been listening to Mario Lanza when i was hardly a teenager. Now i am 62. His voice first captured my heart and i have been searching for his voice when i was in USA and Australia.
A wonderful rendition of a classic and the power and clarity of Mario Lanza's voice brings the whole thing to life, it's a great treat to be able to hear this and isn't it marvellous that it has been captured on record for the future.
a wonderful recording by the greatest tenor that ever lived. I find it incredible that anyone could criticise such talent. Just listen to what Pavarotti, Domingo and Carreras say about him. One can only imagine what he would have been had he taken a different path.I enjoy most of the more modern tenors but they all lack that passion that only Mario Lanza had.I have heard it said very often especially by his devoted fans that he payed more attention to the words than the music, but this is the way that we love him. Mario for ever!!
Great artists, really connoisseurs of music, opera and singing, said.
• TOSCANINI: "Mario Lanza has the greatest voice of the century"
• KOUSSEWITSKY SERGE: "A voice like that appears every 100 years"
• MARIA CALLAS: "My biggest regret was not being able to have the opportunity to sing with Mario Lanza who had the best tenor I've ever heard."
