Dennis DeYoung didn't write Suite Mademoiselle, Tommy Shay did. And Crystal Ball. Dennis DeYoung did write Suite Madam Blue tho and no one can argue what a great voice Dennis had (I seen every tour live). Only better voice I have seen/heard live was Freddy Mercury/Queen RIP.
Tommy Shaw was playing with a different band when he was in Chicago and JY asked him to audition because their other guitarist had just quit the band. The rest is history from Crystal Ball forward.
Not just influenced by Queen, but also the Beatles ("Getting Better," "Your Mother Should Know") and maybe the Turtles as well (hear that band's "Happy Together").
This and Ballerina are obviously about the same stripper. Tommy must have fallen for one.
Montreal was famous for it's fully nude clubs and 5 dollar lap dances back then.
Back in the 70's, I was always astonished at the amazing clarity of their recordings, and I still am. You can really give your speakers a workout with these songs.
Damn......great stuff that I haven't heard in years!! I had "Crystal Ball" on vinyl, wish I still had it........thanks so much for posting all this great Styx material!!
The way it was , Bands could write hit songs year after year, The level of talent in the 60s and 70s was huge. now its garbage , Beiber and Gaga would never have made it back then , Even the glam bands had talent.
