Saw them in '73 at the Capitol in Passaic NJ first row , Kiss opened for them. Then again in 74 with Slade My ears are still ringing !

Yep - that chord progression is heard again and again in rock and roll. Very rudimentary. But the phrase "O.D.'ed on life itself" is unique to this song.

On the back of the Tyranny & Mutation album was an invite to write for the album lyrics... I did, and received a printout (on IBM computer paper complete with holes) and 2 bumper stickers... "Save the Blue Oyster Cult from Themselves" and -I can't remember what the other one said, but I'll bet someone here can...???

Those first three albums are just amazing..I caught them live at the Manchester Free Trade Hall in Nov 75..I saw them twice after that..but they never topped that one.Any one got a tape of that Gig. They were so far ahead of anyone..they had it all. They had great sense of dynamics.Great frontman..wonderfull guitar player..thunderous rhythm section..and great songs that were arcane and brilliant..nothing like them before or since

"Save the Blue Oyster Cult...from themselves!" -- Bumper sticker I had on my 1970 VW Bug during my college years.

These songs bring back memories. My Dad used to play this stuff when I was a little kid. I liked it then, I love it now!

Sadly BOC is wasted on only three songs. Don't fear the Reaper, Godzilla and Burning for you! SAD! Way better than that !

Ok here we go What most people do not understand is that between Rock and Roll and Heavy Metal was a weary plain that was Hard Rock. This was a rather short lived era for anyone that didn't live it. from 1969 to 1974(and also beyond into the eighties) there were Hard Rock Bands. Along the way, a few other forms of music sprung up. Looking back it is easy to say these bands are or were Heavy Metal Bands but they really were not. What an odd time for music.

Greatest song title ever. T & M my first BÖC LP. Then I went back for their debut LP. Secret Treaties. The list goes on. First Live LP was intense too.

Most say Secret Treaties is the best BOC album. I beg to differ. That honor has to go to Tyranny and Mutation, largely due to the higher energy and songs like this.
